The Andes in Bolivia consist of two main ranges being the most western in the frontier with Chile. The formation of the Andes began at the end of the Cretaceous geological period.

Even though Bolivia is the least studied and, in terms of biodiversity, most underestimated countries of the tropics, more than 3000 different species of orchids have been identified up to now.

Astronomy was an essential tool for the ancient Andean cultures, from the Tiwanaku culture to the Inca Empire.

Most of the cattle breeding in Bolivia takes place in the Beni and Santa Cruz regions. Jesuits introduced cattle in 1675.
