The Aymaras, Bolivia’s largest ethnic group, celebrate every year the beginning of a new year in Tiwanaku, during the southern hemisphere winter’s solstice.

Bolivia has more than 40% of the total number of bird species found in South America. 1,374 species in sixty-two families, 20 endemic, 37 specialty species and 28 endangered species.

Since South American indigenous cultures have the winter solstice as the conception of the beginning of a new cycle of life, Aymara, Quechua (Inca), Likan Antai, Rapa Nui and Mapuche cultures celebrate the beginning of a new year with spiritual ceremonies.
