The Andes mountain range extends from Colombia to Chile and runs through the western area of Bolivia. The Cordillera Real, two hundred kilometers long, is the most prominent mountain range in Bolivia and also the most imposing in the Andes. It provides a constant backdrop in the Altiplano, especially in Lake Titicaca and La Paz, and offers the best mountaineering opportunities in the world outside the Himalayas, as well as numerous opportunities for hiking and mountain biking.

The Cordillera Occidental is home to Sajama National Park, which houses the world’s highest forest. The extraordinary biodiversity, along with hot springs, historic colonial churches, and isolated villages, form an impressive landscape.

Both the Cordillera Real and the Cordillera Occidental (Sajama National Park) are incredibly close to La Paz, and a day trip is enough to provide a spectacular view of the mountains, lagoons, and small isolated villages.
