(Starts July 22 and lasts one week)
Held in the town of San Ignacio de Moxos in the department of Beni
It is the most important and colorful festival in the Bolivian Amazon
At the start a procession takes place, with a small statue of San Ignacio, formerly known as Santiago. Then, on July 25th this statue is transformed into San Ignacio and on the 30th in the afternoon the real San Ignacio is taken out of the church in a procession, known as Trinity, followed by musicians playing the huge flute and, of course, the macheteros with large feather hats. Also, at night there are traditional hats firecrackers included, as a plus to the festivity.
The owner of each house offers food and beverages to the people in the procession. The singular characteristics of this Amazon religious festivity are the elaborate feather headdresses, masked dancers, wooden machetes, drums and huge wind instruments.
