For centuries, llama trade caravans have provided the principal link between shepherds of the Andean highlands and agriculturists who inhabit the valleys.

The Jesuit Missions, considered one of Bolivia’s and the world’s greatest cultural treasures (UNESCO’s Cultural Heritage of Mankind) are located in the Chiquitania, a tropical region northeast of the city of Santa Cruz.

It is the biggest annual cultural event in Bolivia, has been declared Oral and Intangible Heritage of Mankind by UNESCO. It is an extraordinary expression of the religious and cultural syncretism with thousands of dancers and musicians who show their devotion to the Socabon Virgin.

Andean civilizations were predominantly agricultural societies. The Incas took advantage of the soil, overcoming the adversities of the Andean terrain and weather.
